Course Description

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) affects families and individuals from all walks of life. The disorder is a lifelong disability that may affect those exposed to alcohol before birth. However, not all individuals living with FASD are diagnosed and not everyone will face the same challenges. Each individual has their own strengths and  may require support to help them succeed in many different aspects of their day-to-day life.

Throughout this multi-module course, Surrey Place’s Eric Marier introduces you to what FASD is, the stigma attached to FASD, and how you can help support those with a diagnosis. In addition, Marier provides 4 case scenarios that you might come across when working  with clients who have FASD and the support strategies you can help implement.

Participants will:

  • Develop a fundamental understanding of what FASD is and its prevalence in Canada
  • Learn about the stigma often associated with FASD
  • Learn strategies for working with someone with FASD in multiple performance areas including memory, communication, social skills, abstract thinking, self-regulation, executive functioning, and more!
  • Review 4 case scenarios involving individuals living with FASD and how to apply strategies that can better support them
